How to Replace the Impeller in the Base Pump

Replacing the impeller in a circulation pump is a crucial task that ensures the longevity and efficiency of the pump in a marine aquarium. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

Installation and Removal of the Device

The installation and removal of the Base pump have been described step-by-step in this article: SR-DEV00012 How to Disassemble and Assemble the Base Pump

Removing the Old Impeller

Carefully remove the impeller from the pump chamber. In most cases, the impeller can be removed without using force. Check the condition of the impeller chamber and clean it of all deposits and contaminants. You can use clean water and cleaning brushes for this purpose.

Installing the New Impeller

Insert the new impeller into the chamber ensuring it is properly seated. Reinstall the pump cover.

Reassembling the Pump

Reassemble the pump into the filtration system reconnect all hoses and cables. Make sure all connections are tight. We described this step in point number 1.

Testing the Operation

Connect the pump to the power supply and turn it on. Check if the pump appears in the Smart Reef application. Check that the pump is working properly, that the impeller is rotating and that water is flowing smoothly. Monitor the pump for a few minutes to ensure there are no leaks or unusual noises.

Regular checking and replacement of worn parts such as the impeller are crucial for the pump’s longevity.
